Alexandru Dasu Appointed Professor at Uppsala University

On April 1, Skandion Clinic’s Chief Physicist, Alexandru Dasu, assumes a professorship at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology (IGP) at Uppsala University.

Three Questions for Our New Professor

What excites you most about becoming a professor?
– The most exciting part is that I will now have more time to dedicate to research, which is my true passion. I will work both at Skandion Clinic and Uppsala University, allowing me to integrate my clinical experience with the university’s advanced and interdisciplinary research environment. This will provide a valuable platform to advance the next generation of proton therapy.

What will be your contribution to Swedish radiotherapy?
– I aim to increase awareness of proton therapy in Sweden, partly by creating networks both nationally and internationally. I look forward to strengthening Sweden’s international collaborations, such as through the European Particle Therapy Network (EPTN) or the PIANOFORTE project: European Partnership for Radiation Protection Research. By sharing data and experiences across borders, Europe can more quickly identify best practices, develop more precise treatment methods, and improve patients’ quality of life.

Your wife, Iuliana Toma-Dasu, is also a professor in medical radiation physics. Do you discuss physics over breakfast at home?
– Yes, we do talk quite a bit about physics, I must admit. We had a moment of reflection when our daughter started pretending to scan her dolls with a CT scanner.
